Death of a Unicorn, starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega in the lead roles, is co-produced by Ari Aster. The film will be released on April 28.

Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega’s Death of a Unicorn has fans buzzing with excitement. Ahead of its release on March 28, the makers have been dropping trailers and glimpses of the film, adding excitement around the upcoming release. They have dropped a new clip wherein the duo escapes a murderous mythical creature in a gripping narrative. In the clip, Elliot and Ridley, en route to the home, are seen navigating through a life-threatening situation as they strike and kill a unicorn. Silently trembling, with Ridley hiding under the car, she abandons the vehicles and runs for her life on the count of three.
Death of a Unicorn, also starring The Bear‘s Will Poulter and Téa Leoni besides the lead stars, is co-produced by Ari Aster. Aster is known for directing 2018’s Hereditary and 2019’s Midsommar. The upcoming film recently premiered at SXSW 2025. In a statement about the film, Alex Scharfman said that Paul Rudd’s character was written specifically for him. The actor describes his character as “the only sane" character in the movie, adding that he was “desperate to be heard while seeing things as they are — or could be."

Rudd continued, “The relationship between Elliot and Ridley, and Ridley’s role in bringing Elliot back down to Earth after being seduced by Leopold’s wealth, is the heart of the movie and what it’s truly about."
Alex Scharfman, the director of the film, said, “It’s ambitious, but I wanted to make somebody’s favorite movie." He continued, “He is the kind that invites you to return to it again and again for the sheer fun of it. So much of Death of a Unicorn’s DNA is rooted in the escapist populism that filmmakers like Ridley Scott, John Carpenter, James Cameron and Steven Spielberg perfected in the 80s and 90s. Hopefully the movie feels new in its construction, but familiar in its feeling."
In this Alex Scharfman dark comedy, the film follows Elliot (Rudd) and his daughter Ridley’s (Ortega) bone-chilling journey while they are on their way to the home of the former’s billionaire pharmaceutical employers, the Leopolds. Richard E Grant plays the patriarch, Odell Leopold, battling terminal illness while also devising plans to exploit the creature’s miraculous properties.
