Dragon Director Ashwath Marimuthu Meets Thalapathy Vijay, Calls It ‘A Dream Come True’
Marimuthu’s recently released coming-of-age comedy-drama Dragon became the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2025, surpassing Ajith's Vidaamuyarchi with over Rs 100 crore gross domestically.

Director Ashwath Marimuthu, known for his blockbuster Tamil film Dragon, recently had his “dream come true" moment as he got to meet his idol and South superstar Thalapathy Vijay. The filmmaker took to X and expressed his happiness by sharing a string of pictures with the GOAT actor.
In the first two snapshots, the director is seen posing with Thalapathy for the camera and the superstar placing his hand on the former’s shoulder, while the last one depicted the Leo actor posing for a selfie with Marimuthu, actor Pradeep Ranganathan, Archana Kalapathi, Leon James and Aishwarya Kalapathi.

The post was accompanied by a long heartfelt note that reads, “My people know I have been working hard to meet him one day with full merit and work with him! Working part I don’t know but I met him!! I sat right opposite to him! Usually, I talk too much and my team was waiting for me to talk since they know how much a fan I am! He looked at me deeply and I just had tears rolling out!"
The moment was no less than a dream come true for the filmmaker especially when his idol praised him for his film Dragon. Marimuthu further added, “En friend @pradeeponelife ku padam panna vanthen! Circle got completed hearing my idol say ‘GREAT WRITING BRO’!"
Furthermore, the director expressed gratitude to Leo and Master producer Jagadish and producer Archana Kalapathi, who helped in making this moment a reality. The post con concluded, “"Thank you @Jagadishbliss bro @archanakalpathi mam biggest gift!"

On the work front, Marimuthu’s recently released Dragon became the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2025, surpassing Ajith’s Vidaamuyarchi with over Rs 100 crore gross domestically. Released on February 21, the film featured celebs like Pradeep Ranganathan, Anupama Parameswaran, Kayadu Lohar, Myskkin and Gautham Vasudev Menon in the lead roles.
Apart from this, Marimuthu is also known for directing films like Oh My Kadavule and Ori Devuda.
Talking about Thalapathy, he will be next seen in the magnum opus Jana Nayagan, which also marks the last film of his career. Directed by H. Vinoth and backed by KVN Productions, the film will be released on the big screens on January 9, 2026, and also features celebs like Bobby Deol and Pooja Hegde.
