DYK Shabana Azmi Was Mistaken For Shibani Dandekar At Dabba Cartel Trailer Launch?
Shabana Azmi recalled that the 20-year-old female crew didn’t know who Shabana Azmi was and wondered if she was Shibani Dandekar.
Veteran actress Shabana Azmi is currently riding high on the success of her recently released show, Dabba Cartel. The veteran actress recently appeared in the episode of Khane Mein Kya Hai, where she made quite interesting revelations. The Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani actress, who has been in the industry for around 50 years now, candidly shared how a female crew member at the trailer launch of the series failed to recognise her. She recalled that the 20-year-old didn’t know who Shabana Azmi was and wondered if she was the actress and her daughter-in-law Shibani Dandekar.
During the recent interaction, Shabana Azmi recalled an interesting anecdote from the trailer launch of Dabba Cartel. She shared, “A 20-year-old girl, and she’s looking into the guest list. ‘Who are you?’ she asked, pointing at me. All of the other cast members just fainted. I said, with a straight face, Shabana Azmi. She asked, ‘You’re not Shibani Dandekar?’"

Elaborating further, the seasoned actress stated that she didn’t take offence or mind her ignorance, stating that she was “sweet" and “so into" her work. Azmi’s Dabba Cartel co-star Anjali Anand, on the other hand, was taken aback by the fact that the girl was unable to recognise the producers of the show—Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, who’s also a popular actor and singer.
In the same conversation, the veteran actress also expressed her fascination with the number of girls and women working on a film set across film departments. Later, she recalled how her husband, Javed Akhtar, joked about the absence of dumb blondes on film sets. Shabana said that he was fed up with the people who were no longer girls. The veteran lyricist stated, “There are no longer any dumb blondes fluttering their eyelashes and saying, ‘I don’t know anything.'"
Responding to this, the actress used to laughingly say, ‘Joote khaoge’ (you’ll be smashed with shoes)." Nonetheless, Azmi claimed that Javed was just trying to rile her up.
Speaking about Dabba Cartel, the film premiered on Netflix on February 28. The crime thriller series, directed by Hitesh Bhatia, features an ensemble cast including Shabana Azmi, Anjali Anand, Shalini Pandey, Jyotika, Sai Tamhankar, Jisshu Sengupta, Bhupendra Singh Jadawat, Lillete Dubey, and Gajraj Rao among others in the key roles.
