Imagine this — a quiet street in West Bengal, and out of nowhere, global pop icon Ed Sheeran and India’s singing sensation Arijit Singh cruise by on a scooter! It was indeed a sight as the two music maestros were spotted hanging out in Arijit’s hometown, Jiaganj in Murshidabad district in the state of West Bengal. Ed Sheeran is currently in India for his The Mathematics tour.
After performing two shows in Bengaluru over the weekend, the singer was seen taking a jetty as he reached West Bengal to hang out with Arijit Singh. The duo took a casual scooter ride in the evening, leaving locals pleasantly surprised as they spotted their favourite singers driving freely without any heavy security in sight. Ed Sheeran and Arijit Singh have shared a strong friendship ever since their unforgettable stage collaboration in London back in September 2024.

In videos doing the round of Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter), Arijit is seen driving the scooter with Ed Sheeran seated behind. The two were accompanied by a few more friends who were in their individual scooters as they took a ride through the roads of the town.

A report in The Times of India stated, “The two spent close to five hours together, vrooming down Jiaganj’s dusty roads- from the bustling Phulmore to the relatively deserted banks of the Bhagirathi, on Singh’s two wheeler, with Sheeran riding pillion. At Shibtala ghat, they got on a mechanised boat for an hour-long ride on the Bhagirathi."
The DIG of the area confirmed Ed Sheeran’s presence in town, noting that the singer had specifically requested no additional security during his visit.
On February 8, Ed Sheeran delighted fans in Bengaluru with a spectacular performance as part of his +-=÷x Tour. He brought out Shilpa Rao during the performance, and the duo captivated the audience with Chuttamalle, with Arijit impressively singing the Telugu lyrics. Earlier, he performed in Hyderabad and Chennai, where fans were treated to a memorable moment as Indian music legend AR Rahman joined him for a special rendition of the iconic Urvasi song.
He was also involved in a controversy recently when Ed surprised fans in Bengaluru with an unannounced performance on Church Street. Viral videos showed a cop unplugging his microphone and abruptly stopping his performance. Hours later, the singer broke his silence saying that he had prior permission to perform at Church Street. He shared a short statement where he wrote that they had “permission to busk" and that it was not just him “randomly turning up."
However, the Bengaluru Police confirmed that permission was not granted for Ed Sheeran’s street performance. As reported by ANI, an official explained that Church Street often experiences heavy foot traffic, and the decision was made to prevent any potential issues.
The singer is now headed to Shillong for his next concert on February 12, before wrapping up his India Tour with a final show in Delhi on February 15.
