Released on January 17, Emergency stars Kangana Ranaut as former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

A month after its theatrical release, Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency is now all set for its OTT release. On Friday, the actress took to her Instagram stories and revealed that the film will be available on Netflix from March 17 onwards.
With the OTT release, people in Punjab will also be able to watch the Kangana Ranaut starrer. When the film was released in theatres in January this year, theatre owners in the state made a big decision against the political drama. While the film was released all over India, cinema owners in Punjab decided not to screen the movie. The move came as the film was also accused of defaming Sikhs by many.

Released on January 17, Emergency stars Kangana Ranaut as former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Kangana is not just playing the lead in Emergency but has also directed it. The film explores the 21-month Emergency imposed by Gandhi, from 1975 to 1977, often referred to as the darkest chapter of independent India.
Besides Ranaut, Emergency also stars Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mahima Chaudhry as Pupul Jayakar, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and Vishak Nair as Sanjay Gandhi.
Emergency received mixed reviews from all. News18 Showsha also gave the film a 3-star rating. “While Emergency ambitiously spans multiple events, its structure leaves much to be desired. The first half feels stretched, while the post-interval portions seem rushed. Scenes like Gandhi’s self-comparison to an old devil feel distasteful and unnecessary," a part of our review read.
“What elevates the film is its casting. Kangana Ranaut’s portrayal of Indira Gandhi is nuanced and commendable. Her meticulous attention to Gandhi’s mannerisms and demeanour showcases her acting prowess, reaffirming why she’s regarded as one of the most talented actresses in the industry," it added.
However, Emergency failed to rule the box office. It earned Rs 17 crore in India.
