Emergency In Trouble! Gurudwara Committee Demands Ban, Accuses Kangana Ranaut Of Defaming Sikhs
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has written a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann against Kangana Ranaut's Emergency.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has demanded a ban on Kangana Ranaut’s movie Emergency in Punjab. On Thursday, i.e. a day before the film’s release, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami wrote a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and argued that the film must not be released in the state. He accused Kangana of defaming Sikhs in her movie.
“While lodging its protest, the SGPC has already sent its executive committee resolution to the state chief secretary in which it was clearly stated that the screening of this movie would not be allowed in Punjab because it has been made under a scheme to defame Sikhs. “The resolution demanded the Punjab government ban the screening of the movie in the state. However, sadly, the Punjab government led by you (Bhagwant Mann) did not take any step in this direction. If the movie is released on January 17, it would enrage the Sikh world, which is natural," the letter read.

“By hiding facts related to attacks on the holiest shrine of the Sikhs, Sri Harmandar Sahib, the top temporal seat, Akal Takht Sahib, and other gurdwaras and the Sikh genocide (of 1984), this movie works to spread venom under an anti-Sikh agenda. So, we again demand a ban on screening this movie in Punjab. If released, we will be forced to strongly protest it," Dhami added.
This is not the first time that the Gurdwara committee has raised an objection on Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency. Even last year, several complaints were made against the film, which resulted in delay in its release.
Kangana Ranaut is not just playing the lead in Emergency but has also directed it. The film explores the 21-month Emergency imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, from 1975 to 1977, often referred to as the darkest chapter of independent India. The film also stars Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mahima Chaudhry as Pupul Jayakar, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and Vishak Nair as Sanjay Gandhi. It will hit theatres today i.e. on January 17, 2025.
