Actor Nam Myung Ryul extended his condolences through social media and called her passing an unfortunate event. “After some time, I heard the news that Myung-joo had developed cancer and was undergoing treatment. This was around the time I heard that actress Lee Yeon-kyu, who performed with me in ‘Burned Love,’ was seriously ill with cancer. A little later, actress Yeon-kyu could not overcome the attack of cancer and went to heaven. I was worried about Myung-joo, but contrary to my concern, she consistently stood on stage. I thought she, unlike Yeon-kyu, would bravely overcome cancer and continue to perform, but after receiving the news of her passing, I am utterly shocked," he said, as per ChosunBiz.
Kang Myung Joo made her start as a theatre actor, debuting in the industry in 1992 with the play Kooni, Nara. She appeared in many other plays, like Hamlet in the Year 2000 and Blood and CIAAT. Among her other works, Myung Joo is remembered for her short yet impactful role as a judge in Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Even during her battle with cancer, the actress never gave up on acting and went on to perform in Sweat, Bea, and 20th Century Blues in the most recent.
She is survived by her husband, actor Park Yun Hee, and their two daughters.
