Himesh Reshammiya Rejected Kirti Kulhari's Inputs For Badass Ravi Kumar: ‘Don’t Mess With...’ | Exclusive
Kirti Kulhari says working on spoof-actioner Badass Ravi Kumar helped her do away with judgments surrounding mainstream Bollywood.

Kirti Kulhari admits that her appearance in the trailer of Himesh Reshammiya’s spoof action thriller, Badass Ravi Kumar, shocked many. Otherwise known as a serious actor, her character in the film as a femme fatale grabbed the attention of many. Now, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, she tells us, “I get why people feel that way. They were like, ‘Did I see it right?’ They had to go back to the trailer and reconfirm my presence in it (laughs)."
In fact, she herself was shocked when she was approached for Badass Ravi Kumar. Recalling a condition that was put forth by Himesh during the making of the film, Kirti says, “Himesh and I exist in parallel worlds. How can they ever meet? I remember there were a few dialogues and I wanted to improve them, add something to them, remove something or say them differently, and he told me no. It was almost like take it or leave it but this is what it is. He made it clear that if I say yes to the film, I’ll have to do things his way or not do the film at all. That was the moment that I knew I’ll do the film."

It was his ‘clarity and conviction’ that impressed her. “He was like, ‘Don’t mess with what we have. This is what it is.’ I wasn’t offended. I was happy that here’s somebody who knows what he’s doing," Kirti remarks. So, did she not have any reservations before signing the dotted lines? “Of course, I wondered what the film will do for my career and if my audiences will like it. But I wanted to challenge the idea of who I am and how I look at myself as an actor. I want to bring a shock value with the things I do and that’s just the trip I’m on," she says.
Kirti goes on to reveal how she would ‘judge’ commercial Hindi potboilers before she finally ended up doing one and it changed her ‘perspective’ forever. “I used to keep cracking up during the shoot. There would be moments where I would go, ‘Why am I doing this? Do I belong here?’ But after a point, I was like a little child in awe of everything that was happening on that set. I was at a certain level and the world of Badass Ravi Kumar was up there. Earlier, I used to look down upon the world of commercial, mainstream Bollywood. I would totally judge these films because they’re so different from how I see cinema," she points out.
The Pink and Four More Shots Please actor further adds, “That’s the shift that happened and I wanted to break my own judgments. The film added more groundedness and humility to me because I realised who I’m to judge things. I’m in no place to make judgements. I would never laugh at such films but wonder, what is even going on? And with Badass Ravi Kumar, I ended up laughing at myself because the joke was on me. Imagine what it did to me as a person! Now, I don’t take myself so seriously."
