Selena Gomez and her fiance, Benny Blanco, are basking in the success of their recently released album, I Said I Love You First. The 15-track album, which literally tells about the couple’s love story, comprises a very personal song for the Who Says singer. Recently, Selena got real about her insecurities and shared how they inspired the song, Younger and Hotter Than Me.

During a conversation with Chris Olsen on SiriusXM’s TikTok Radio IRL, the 32-year-old singer and actress talked about I Said I Love You First. The album begins with a special spoken-word introduction, which features a recording of Selena thanking the cast and crew of Disney’s sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place– the show that proved to be a turning point in her career.

“Benny saw the video online, and it was the last day I was shooting Wizards, and that was after over a hundred episodes with these people that I grew up with. So it was pretty much, you know, the beginning for me," explained Selena before adding that it was also the “closing of a chapter."

Following the spoken-word intro, Younger and Hotter Than Me plays in the album. In the song, Selena expresses feelings of insecurity and fear of losing her romantic partner to someone else. Explaining why Benny thought that it would be great to add that video before the song, she shared, “He thought it would be sweet since ‘Younger and Hotter’ is a reflection of my, you know, my past or insecurities. It was really important to him that he tell that story, too."

As they proceeded, Chris Olsen pointed out that both Wizards of Waverly Place and her new song show Selena’s journey from a young girl to adulthood. She agreed to the connection, saying, “I think that was what the message was meant to be is that every girl, person, human being, has felt insecure and they’ve been to a house or a party, and it’s hard."

Although she still gets insecure sometimes, the Only Murders in the Building star admitted that she has grown a lot over the years. “I get very insecure sometimes. I’m not as insecure as I was when I was younger, but yeah, there’s always something shinier. There’s always something better, and that’s not what I should be thinking about," explained Selena.

Selena and her fiance, record producer Benny Blanco dropped their first-ever collaborative album on March 21, 2025, through SMG Music LLC, Friends Keep Secrets, and Interscope Records.
