Malaika Arora addressed the ongoing controversy related to reality shows being scripted.

Malaika Arora recently addressed the ongoing debate about reality shows being scripted. Currently judging Hip Hop India 2, the Munni Badnaam Hui star emphasized that authenticity and real talent take precedence over unnecessary drama in such shows. In an interview, Malaika acknowledged that to a casual viewer, reality shows may sometimes seem scripted. However, she clarified that this is not the case. “To a commoner, it may look scripted at times," she told Hindustan Times, adding that even the judges and crew members get frustrated if things appear overly dramatic. “We get agitated if it is dramatic. We want things to be real."
Speaking specifically about Hip Hop India 2, she assured that the show keeps emotional theatrics to a minimum. “There is no ‘rona-dhona’ here. We’ve kept the drama aside." Known for her iconic dance numbers, Malaika reinforced that talent is the core of reality TV competitions.

She also highlighted how contestants sometimes exaggerate their reactions based on past reality TV trends. “Yes, you can see it when someone is overdoing it because they have watched a lot of reality TV and know the usual patterns. But we stop them," she said. “‘Band karo isse, yeh drama mat karo. Yeh banaawat nahin hoga yahan par’ (Stop this, don’t do this drama. This pretence won’t work here). Let’s stick to dance and not drama. Let the dance speak for itself."
The controversy surrounding scripted reality shows resurfaced on social media after a photo featuring Hema Malini holding a detailed script of a reality show went viral on Reddit. The picture was reportedly from the sets of Indian Idol, and the veteran actress was seen holding a script of what seemed to be her dialogues for the show. This began a series of controversies, with netizens flooding the comment section of the post with their reactions.
Coming to Malaika’s work front, besides appearing in movies as an actress, dancer or producer, she was also seen as a judge on several television shows earlier.
