Legendary actor-director Manoj Kumar passed away at 87 in Mumbai. Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra paid respects.

The death of the legendary actor-director Manoj Kumar, on Friday morning, left the entire nation grief-stricken. The actor, who was 87, breathed his last at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Amitabh Bachchan visited Manoj Kumar’s residence on Saturday morning to pay his final respects to the late actor. In a video that surfaced on social media, Big B was seen arriving at the residence to attend Kumar’s funeral. He was also accompanied by his actor-son, Abhishek Bachchan. Dharmendra, too, accompanied by his staff, arrived at Manoj Kumar’s house. He reminisced about his time with the late actor and spoke to the media about how they spent their childhood together.

Both the veteran actors also took to social media to remember Manoj Kumar. Dharmendra posted an old photo on Instagram, showing him and Manoj Kumar smiling while holding a trophy. Dharmendra wore a white shirt, red tie, and grey suit, while Manoj Kumar had on a white shirt and trousers.

    “Manoj, mere yaar tere saath beeta har pal bahut yaad ayega," he wrote in the caption.

    Amitabh shared an old black-and-white photo on his blog, featuring him and Manoj. In the picture, Manoj is laughing, with his arm around Amitabh and his head resting next to him. Amitabh smiles while looking away from the camera. He wrote, “In remembrance… and prayer (folded hands emoji) in grief."

    Manoj Kumar was facing health-related ailments for a long time. Minutes after his death, son Kunal Goswami issued a statement revealing that Kumar passed away peacefully. “He has had health-related issues for a long time. It’s the grace of god that he bid adieu to this world peacefully. His cremation will take place tomorrow," he told ANI.

    Manoj Kumar was one of the most popular actors of 1960s and 1970s. He is known for acting and directing films with patriotic themes. Some of his popular works include Shaheed (1965), Upkar (1967), Purab Aur Paschim (1970), and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan (1974). He came to be known as ‘Bharat Kumar’ for starring in an array of films based on themes of nationalism. In recognition for his contribution to the film industry, he was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1992, followed by the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.
