Comedian and Bigg Boss 17 winner Munawar Faruqui has spoken out against a recent order issued by Meerut Police, which warns Muslims not to offer Eid prayers on public roads. The directive, aimed at the final Friday prayers of Ramzan on March 28 and Eid-Ul-Fitr, threatens violators with legal action, including the cancellation of passports and driving licenses.

Munawar, who is known for using his platform to comment on social and political issues, took to Instagram to share a screenshot of the news. Expressing his frustration, he wrote, “30 minutes ki namaz ke liye yeh? Kya ab koi bhi festival Bharat ke roads pe nahi hoga?" (This for a 30-minute prayer? Will no festival in India now be allowed on the roads?)

His post quickly gained traction, with many netizens echoing his concerns and criticizing the directive as selective and discriminatory.

This isn’t the first time Munawar has found himself in the middle of a controversy involving religious sentiments. Just days ago, his satirical comedy show Hafta Vasooli drew backlash from a section of viewers who accused him of using abusive language and promoting vulgarity. The show, which tackles trending political and cultural issues with humor, was called out by critics, some even demanding a boycott.

Munawar has previously faced legal trouble over similar allegations. In 2021, he was arrested for allegedly hurting religious sentiments during a stand-up performance and spent over a month in jail before being granted bail.

Ironically, the comedian’s recent post comes shortly after a deeply personal and spiritual moment. Just a week ago, Munawar visited Mecca to perform Umrah alongside his wife, Mehzabeen Coatwala, whom he quietly married in 2024. Sharing a photo from the holy site, he captioned it: “Duniya ki sabse khubsurat jagah Makkah. Allah sabko yanha bulaye. Aur dua aap sabke liye ki hai maine. Mujhe bhi apni dua mein yaad rakhna." (The most beautiful place in the world—Mecca. May Allah call everyone here. I prayed for you all. Remember me in your prayers too.)
