Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha’s Girls Will Be Girls won the best film jury award at News18 Showsha Reel Awards. The drama received overwhelming love and bagged many awards. Written and directed by Shuchi Talati, it revolves around a compelling story set in a boarding school in a small Himalayan town in North India. The film features debutants Preeti Panigrahi and Kesav Binoy Kiron alongside Kani Kusruti in lead roles
On receiving the award, Ali Fazal thanked everyone and said, “Thank you so much jury. Awards are the funny thing I was thinking on my way. Artist khush ho jata hai. And I think its really important. It’s a reflective month. Aksar mere dil yeh khayal aa raha tha ki how important stories are in this teen age. There are war happening all over the world as its lowest points. And that when stories are I think very very important and if they can reach somewhere in one part of the world or several parts, touch someone, I think we are glad and proud to be up here receiving an award on behalf, not just one you know couple of awards this night. Also tonight we want to give a shoutout to all lovely people who won."

The film also marks the debut of Richa and Ali as producers with their joint venture Pushing Buttons Studios. Speaking about the India release of their film during a chat with ANI, the Heeramandi actress shared, “This is our first film (as producers) and it’s a highly awarded one. It bagged awards at the Sundance Film Festival, had screenings at Busan and TIFF. Also, at the Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI), we won four awards. Now we are bringing this Indian film to the Indian audience."
Richa and Ali welcomed their first child, a daughter named Zuneyra Ida Fazal, in July this year. Talking about balancing work life and parenting together, Richa shared, “Currently our baby is only 4-5 months old. She hasn’t crawled yet, so we still have time. But, once she starts walking, I believe our free time will go. For the time being, we’re adjusting our lives around her."
On the acting front, Richa was last seen in the web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the show also featured Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Fardeen Khan, Shekhar Suman and others in pivotal roles. She is yet to announce her next project.
Ali, on the other hand, will be next seen in director Anurag Basu’s upcoming drama film Metro…In Dino which also features Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Anupam Kher, Pankaj Tripathi and Neena Gupta in lead roles. The new release date of the film is yet to be announced.
