Sydney Sweeney, in her interview for Vanity Fair’s 2025 Hollywood Issue, called out Hollywood’s so-called “women empowering other women" narrative, describing it as a facade. The Euphoria star expressed her frustration with the industry’s tendency to tear women down while pretending to lift them up, particularly by successful women in the business.

“It’s very disheartening to see women tear other women down," the 27-year-old actress said. She pointed out the hypocrisy of established women in the industry who criticise younger talent trying to make their way. “Women who are successful in other avenues of their industry see younger talent working really hard — hoping to achieve whatever dreams that they may have — and then trying to bash and discredit any work that they’ve done."

Sweeney added that the popular phrase “Women empowering women" is nothing more than a “fake front." “None of it’s happening," she said bluntly. “All of it is fake and a front for all the other s–t that they say behind everyone’s back."

She explained, “I’ve read that our entire lives, we were raised to believe only one woman can be at the top. There’s one woman who can get the man…so then all the others feel like they have to fight each other or take that one woman down."

The actress admitted that she’s still grappling with these challenges as she rises in her career, saying, “I’m just trying my best over here. Why am I getting attacked?"

Sweeney’s frustration was further fuelled by recent criticism she faced from Hollywood producer Carol Baum, who publicly questioned her acting talent and physical appearance. Baum’s harsh comments about Sweeney’s work, including dismissing Anyone But You, a rom-com featuring Sweeney and Glen Powell, as “unwatchable," led to backlash. Sweeney’s team called the remarks “shameful".
