Tamannaah Bhatia On 10 Years Of Baahubali: 'None Of Us Imagined What The Film Would Do’

Baahubali broke several records after its release in India and overseas, including in Japan, China and several European countries.

Baahubali: The Beginning, directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Prabhas and Rana Daggubati in the lead roles, redefined Indian cinema. It set new benchmarks in visual effects, storytelling, and scale. Released in 2015, the film became one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. As it approaches its 10th anniversary, actress Tamannaah Bhatia, who was part of the cast, shared her excitement, saying, “It was a magical movie that happened to us."

Speaking to PTI at Lakme Fashion Week X FDCI in Mumbai, she said, “Baahubali is a magical film that happened to us. None of us could have imagined or predicted what it would do. But what it did for us, not just as actors, but for the country and the film industry, is remarkable and historic."

    Baahubali shattered numerous records in India and internationally, particularly in Japan, China, and Europe. More than that, it revolutionised epic storytelling with its breathtaking visuals and gripping narrative. It is widely regarded as the first truly pan-Indian blockbuster of the modern era.

    The film grossed over Rs 650 crore worldwide and featured a stellar cast, including Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan, Nassar and Sathyaraj. Recent reports suggest that SS Rajamouli’s epic may be re-released in theatres to mark its 10th anniversary in July. However, an official confirmation from the makers is still awaited.

    Baahubali: The Beginning follows Shivudu’s journey as he discovers his true identity as Mahendra Baahubali, son of Amarendra Baahubali. The story unfolds as he embarks on a quest to avenge his father’s death and reclaim the throne of Mahishmati.

    Its sequel, Baahubali: The Conclusion, released in 2017, remains the second-highest-grossing Indian film of all time, with an estimated worldwide collection of Rs 1,800 crore.

    As for Tamannaah, she is currently awaiting the release of her supernatural thriller Odela 2, set to hit cinemas on 17 April. She is also working on Ranger, a jungle adventure film starring Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt.
