Vikrant Massey delivers a stellar performance. Ridhi Dogra impresses with her acting prowess.

The Sabarmati ReportU/A
I honestly don’t remember the last time I watched a Vikrant Massey film and returned disappointed. This time as well, with The Sabarmati Report, the actor has pushed his boundaries. Based on the events of 27 February 2002, Massey, along with Raashii Khanna and Riddhi Dogra, reveals the “apparent truth" of the Godhra incident. Although the trailer received mixed reactions on social media and saw many polarised comments, in Massey’s words, “Leave your right and left-wing thinking for two hours and watch the film".
Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film starts on a lighter note and Massey’s comic timing and dialogue delivery make the situational comedy stand out. However, it doesn’t take long before things turn upside down for news reporter Samar Kumar (portrayed by Massey), as he visits the site of an incident near Godhra. The film showcases certain media reportage as a fabricated piece to cover the real incident.

The first half of the film centres on the Godhra incident and shows a media house helping to cover up facts. Massey owns the first half with his powerful acting and Dogra aces her performance as a reputed news anchor. In her words, she has a newfound “respect" for journalists. Raashii Khanna steps in as a junior, handed the task of doing a 5th-anniversary report on the Sabarmati Express “accident". The second half of the film is anchored on the journey of discovering the reported truth. The journey of discovering the reported truth is what makes the film’s second half.
Khanna and Massey together carry the film on their shoulders and take it to another level where it gains pace, keeping you on the edge of your seat; the dialogues will surely receive applause and some whistles. Along with the power-packed dialogues, the film strums a patriotic chord with the music and background score. As much as the film showcases the reported truth of the Sabarmati Report, it also balances out the fact that it talks about the brotherhood among communities within our country.
The climax is surely one that explains the whole conspiracy and showcases the 2002 incident. But when it all comes to a close, Massey emerges as the winner. Overall, The Sabarmati Report is a good watch, and Massey, along with Dogra and Khanna, deserves the credit for taking up this challenge.
