Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor is facing intense criticism online for promoting her upcoming film Abir Gulaal, co-starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, at a time when the nation is mourning the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir.

The actress, who has not issued any statement condemning the deadly attack on tourists, has been trending on social media with hashtags like #BoycottVaaniKapoor and #BoycottAbirGulaal. Several users have accused her of being insensitive and unpatriotic for continuing with the film’s promotional activities, calling her actions a betrayal.

On April 19 and April 21, Kapoor was seen participating in promotional events and music launches for Abir Gulaal, actively praising her co-star during a live interaction on Instagram. She had also posted a promotional update on Tuesday morning, which has since been deleted from her account.

Following the attack, which left several innocent tourists dead and injured, backlash against the film has grown louder. A user commented, “Shame on these low life people who dance on people’s grave," while another said, “You betrayed our nation, Vaani."

This isn’t the first time Abir Gulaal has run into controversy. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) had earlier warned that it would not allow the film’s release in Maharashtra due to the presence of a Pakistani actor in the lead role. Fawad Khan, who previously starred in Kapoor & Sons and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, has not worked in Bollywood for several years following strained Indo-Pak relations.

The current outrage has put Abir Gulaal’s future in jeopardy, and the backlash appears to be spilling over to Kapoor’s other films. Many social media users have threatened to boycott her upcoming projects, including Raid 2, co-starring Ajay Devgn, which is slated for release on May 1.
