Family raises alarm after body is discovered in Mthembu Village

The mysterious death of Dumisani ‘Sdumo’ Zwane, whose body was found hanging from a container in Mthembu Village, raises questions of foul play as his family believes he was strangled before being left to die, leaving them searching for answers and justice.

Kwa-Thema – Dumisani ‘Sdumo’ Zwane’s body was discovered hanging from a container in Mthembu Village on April 6.

His sister Regina Mabena said she was outside sweeping the yard when an unknown man and woman came to fetch her to take her to the scene.

“They did not want to tell me what was happening at the time. I insisted that they tell me why they want me to go with them. This is when they disclosed to me that a male body was discovered and the person’s description matched my brother’s.

“I woke everyone up in the house to inform them of the incident. Funny enough, when I was sweeping outside, I noticed that there were rocks scattered around but I did not understand why,” she explained.

“On our way to the scene, I asked to pass by my aunt’s house to fetch her. I needed her for moral support. We found him hanging by a shoelace from a container. He was not in good shape, and the lace did not seem tight enough to have been the reason for his death.

“The space he was hanging from was not spacious enough for him to commit suicide. It was just big enough for him to kneel.  It looked like he was strangled before being hanged,” she added.

Mabena highlighted that her brother did not have blood on his body or bruises. There was, however, blood on the grass near where he was found.

“His knees had scratches as if he had been crawling on the ground,” she said.

She cited that her niece later explained that Zwane was dropped off at home by his friends around 04:00 on Sunday. It is said that he was out with friends during that day.

“My niece said he came in upset, fought with the dog, uttered violent words and was throwing around the rocks. Minutes later he left again. We do not know what transpired afterwards. And we are deeply saddened and pained by this encounter,” she said.

She said her brother was a loving individual who was happy. “He was a handyman and loved assisting everyone where he could and when he could.

“My brother was a joyful, funny and loving person. He loved his children very much. Losing him like this is painful. We hope that justice will prevail for us to find closure and healing as a family,” she mentioned.
