Paris Olympics 2024: Manika Batra Stars As Indian Women's TT Team Beat Romania To Qualify For Quarterfinals
Batra won both of her singles matches to help India beat Romania 3-2 and qualify for the quarterfinals of the women's team table tennis competition.

India beat higher-ranked Romania in the round of 16 match of the women’s table tennis competition at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 on Monday (August 5) to qualify for the quarterfinals. Star Indian paddler Manika Batra won both of her singles matches to take India to the next round after Sreeja Akula and Archana Girish Kamath suffered close defeats in their singles matches.
India started the match on a high note and took a 1-0 lead after the women’s doubles team of Sreeja and Archana defeated Romania’s Adina Diaconu and Elizabeta Samara 3-0 (11-9, 12-10, 11-7).

Manika doubled India’s advantage by getting the better of Bernadette Szőcs 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 11-7) in her first singles match. But Romania staged a super comeback by winning the next two matches.
Sreeja suffered a 2–3 defeat in a close contest against Elizabeta Samara. The world No. 8 paddler won the match with a score line of 11-8, 4-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-8, and then in the fourth match, Bernadette bounced back from her loss against Manika to get the better of Archana 3-1 (11-5, 8-11, 11-7, 11-9).
In the do-or-die fifth match, Batra was up against Samara, and she defeated her 3-0 (11-5, 11-9, 11-9) to take India through.
In the quarterfinal India will now face the winner of match between Germany and USA.
