Happy 77th Birthday Jeetendra: 10 Most Memorable Performances

As veteran actor Jeetendra turns a year older, we bring to you the most memorable role he essayed.

Released in 1964, 'Geet Gaya Patharon Ne' was produced and directed by V. Shantaram. The film marked the debut of Rajshree, V Shantaram's daughter and helped Jeetendra bag his first lead role. While the film's music was composed by Ramlal, the lyrics given by Hasrat Jaipuri.

Parichay was based on a Bengali novel, 'Rangeen Uttarain' by Raj Kumar Maitra. Directed by Gulzar, the film revolved around Ravi who has to tutor five stubborn grandchildren of a wealthy man (Pran). Jeetendra was impressive in his attempt to deal with the kids with patience and persistence and manages to woo the eldest granddaughter (Jaya).

A remake of 1964 hit Tamil Film 'Panakkara Kudumbam', 1970 film 'Humjoli' is produced by Prasan Kapoor and directed by Ramanna. The film featured Jeetendra, Leena Chandavarkar, Pran, Mehmood, Mumtaz, and Aruna Irani.

Produced and directed by J Om Prakash, 'Aasha' featured Jeetendra, Reena Roy, Rameshwari, Girish Karnad, Bhagwan and Shakti Kapoor. The film was a blockbuster at the box office.

Directed by Nasir Hussain, 'Caravan' featured Jeetendra in the role of a gypsy. The actor shared the screen space with Asha Parekh and Aruna Irani. Such was the impact of the film that it was declared a hit at box office, bagged an award in 1971.

Released in 1983, the action-drama film 'Himmatwala' was directed by K Raghavendra Rao and featured Jeetendra and Sridevi in key roles. It was a remake of a Telugu film 'Ooriki Monagadu'. Himmatwala went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters of the 80s.

Jeetendra managed to wow his fans with his performance in the romantic comedy 'Khushboo'. The film also featured Hema Malini. The film was based on the Bengali novel 'Panditmashai' written by Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay.

Of the 25 films in which Jeetendra and Jaya Prada were paired together, 19 went on to become box office hits. They ruled the 80s Hindi cinema with films such as 'Takkar' (1980), 'Mawaali' (1983) and 'Tohfa' (1984). The film 'Tohfa' The film, which was a remake of K. Raghavendra Rao's popular Telugu film 'Devata', was about two sisters (Sridevi, Jaya Prada) and their love triangle with a lead hero (Jeetendra).

Jeetendra's most popular film 'Nagin' was inspired by Francois Truffaut's film The Bride Wore Black, based on Cornell Woolrich's novel of the same title. The film was directed by Rajkumar Kohli. The film was declared a super hit at the box office.

Jeetendra's onscreen pairing with Sridevi went on to be extremely successful. The actors worked not only worked in Himmatwala', 'Thofa', but also 'Mawali'.
