The second race of the 2025 Formula 1 season will be held later this week. The Chinese Grand Prix will begin on March 21 at the Shanghai International Circuit and conclude on the 23rd of March. The season opener in Melbourne was the perfect appetiser for the 2025 F1 campaign. The Australian Grand Prix saw McLaren driver Lando Norris pip Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to secure first place on the podium. The wet conditions in Australia presented racers with ample challenges on the circuit, making things more interesting.

Given the recent performances, McLaren will be heading into the Chinese Grand Prix as the favourites to win. The British car makers were quite good in China in 2024 before the mega-Miami upgrade that propelled them to the front. McLaren have also seemingly nailed the regulation once again, with the team doing something incredible with its rear brakes. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, however, shouldn’t be slept upon. The Dutch-Belgian racer was right behind Norris towards the closing moments of the Australian GP.

Mercedes also impressed in Australia with George Russell finishing the event in third place. His 18-year-old teammate Kimi Antonelli caught the attention of several fans, starting the race from 16th and finishing in fourth place. The youngster displayed exceptional skill in wet conditions and is expected to replicate a similar performance in China.

Lewis Hamilton didn’t enjoy a stellar debut in Ferrari’s colours, finishing in 10th place in Melbourne. The seven-time world champion had some trouble on the team radio which cost him a handful of positions. Ferrari chief Fred Vasseur recently spoke about the debut and claimed his team would learn from their mistakes to deliver a much better performance in Shanghai. The results of the Chinese GP will likely set the tone for the rest of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
