Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal will be out for at least the next three weeks as he continues to recover from a low back strain that has kept him out for the majority of the season.

The three-time All-Star has played in just three games this season, averaging 17.3 points and 5.3 rebounds. He was expected to play on Wednesday night against the Timberwolves, but he was a late scratch with his back issues.

“He woke up with some residual tightness in the back [Wednesday] morning," Suns head coach Frank Vogel said about Beal missing the team’s last game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. “We were hoping it would loosen up by game time. But it did not, so we held him out."

The team said Friday that the new injury timeline was “determined following further evaluation and consultation."

The Suns also added he would be reevaluated after the three weeks, which means he could miss more than the eight games in that timeframe.

“Take his time," Suns forward Kevin Durant said. “We’ll hold it down for him."

The Suns came into the season with high hopes, largely thanks to the star trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Beal, but the group hasn’t played together through 11 games. Booker has also missed substantial time with various injuries, including a calf strain.

Acquired from the Washington Wizards in an offseason trade, Beal was expected to form a high-powered big three in Phoenix, but injuries have prevented that from happening.

Devin Booker has also played in just three of the Suns’ 11 games because of ankle and calf injuries, but has not appeared in a regular-season game with Beal. Kevin Durant has been the team’s lone superstar constant, as the 35-year-old has not yet missed a game.

Phoenix has a 5-6 record this season heading into Friday night’s game against the Utah Jazz.
