5-Year-Old Found Crying On Ballia Railway Station With Drunk Man. Local Hero Comes To Her Rescue
A 5-year-old girl was found crying next to a drunk man at Ballia station in UP. The man turned out to be her father. The girl was reunited with her mother by a local social worker

A little girl, lost and separated from her mother. A mother, miles away, frantically looking for her child. And a Good Samaritan who reunites them. This might seem like the plot of the 2015 Bollywood blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan, but in reality is the emotional story of five-year-old Durga Kumari who was rescued by Ballia’s Sagar Singh.
Sagar is a popular face in the district, known to come to the rescue of people separated from their families, those suffering from mental health conditions and those rendered homeless. On this particular occasion, he came across a little girl wandering about and crying at the Ballia Railway Station. With the girl was a man who seemed to be drunk.

Upon searching the drunk man, he found a small diary with a mobile number written on it. Sagar called the number and on the other side was a woman who revealed that she was the child’s mother and the drunk man was, in fact, her father. She revealed that because of his alcohol addiction, the children are not allowed to go with him, but somehow the little Durga snuck away and followed him.
On hearing about her child roaming around at the Ballia station, the woman, Sanjila Devi, hailing from Lalmania in Supaul district, set out on a trip to Ballia to reunite with her daughter.
In the meantime, Sagar took the child home to care for her. The five-year-old Durga Kumari formed a bond with Sagar’s wife and children. Seeing her poor health condition, the family even took her to the doctor for a check-up.
Her mother, meanwhile, journeyed 332 km from Supaul to Ballia, a trip that lasted three days. When she spotted her daughter, she held her close, tears of relief streaming down her cheeks. Sanjila Devi explained that the child had unintentionally wandered off with her father.
After receiving such care and love at Sagar’s home, Durga Kumari was hesitant to leave. Nevertheless, she boarded the train with her mother and during the trip back home, Durga made a video call to Sagar to thank him and bid him goodbye.
