Despite earning a degree in non-computer science from a tier-3 university, he used his love of web programming to freelance on more than 100 small projects utilising HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and Node.js. He was able to land his first job with a 4.7 LPA thanks to his practical experience.
From then on, his knowledge of data structures and algorithms (DSA), strategic job transfers, and unrelenting upskilling drove him to FAANG companies, where his pay soared. His most recent move culminated an amazing financial journey by landing him a staff engineer position at a well-known global company with a 2 crore payout.

The Redditor’s journey was far from simple. At first, he struggled to land jobs with comparable compensation because of interview rounds that focused on DSA. He got his first job at a service-based startup, nevertheless, because of his impressive portfolio and practical web development skills.
After a year and a half, he saw he needed to expand and moved to a product-based startup, which essentially tripled his pay. The change prepared him for the next big step—a FAANG job—despite the unfavourable work culture.
After practising DSA diligently for two and a half years, he was ready for interviews at the FAANG level. He doubled his pay to 26 LPA as a result of his perseverance. The drive continued to grow. Due to his continuous success, he was elevated to a position similar to SDE III, increasing his annual remuneration to 1.3 crore. He finally left FAANG after four years to work as a Staff Engineer for a renowned global company, earning 2 crore a year.
As he reflected on his experience, he highlighted the need for lifelong learning, flexibility, and using practical initiatives to make a difference.
