In a devastating turn of events that transpired in Kansas City, Missouri, United States, a precious month-old infant tragically lost her life after her mother, Mariah Thomas, mistakenly and unintentionally placed her in an oven for a nap, instead of safely laying her down in her crib.
According to the report by Sky News, the distressing incident came to light when authorities responded to a call reporting an unresponsive infant. Upon reaching the scene, law enforcement officers were confronted with a harrowing sight: the baby girl, with severe burns, was found motionless.

Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene, a moment described by officers as “gruesome," as reported by Business Today.
Evidence of the tragic mishap was apparent within the household, with the baby’s clothing charred and fused to her diaper. Additionally, a scorched baby blanket was discovered, further underscoring the severity of the situation. In response to the devastating loss, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office took action, charging Mariah Thomas, 26, with endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A felony due to the fatal outcome.
Jean Peters Baker, the Jackson County prosecuting attorney, expressed profound sorrow over the untimely demise of the infant and conveyed gratitude to the first responders and prosecutors involved in the case.
“We appreciate all first responders who worked this scene and the prosecutors who went to the scene to issue these charges. We acknowledge the gruesome nature of this tragedy, and our hearts are weighted by the loss of this precious life. We trust the criminal justice system to respond appropriately to these awful circumstances," Jackson County prosecuting attorney Jean Peters Baker was quoted by The Guardian.
Amidst the unfolding investigation, a friend of Mariah Thomas speculated that her mental health might have played a role in the tragic incident. They fondly remembered the infant as a “very bubbly" child who brought joy with her infectious smile, Business Today added.
