Boss Cuts Employee’s Pay To Promote Work-Life Balance: ‘They Meant Having Less On Plate Literally’
A boss didn’t just reduce an employee’s workload in the name of work-life balance, they also slashed their salary.

The discussion around work-life balance has been there for a while now, with companies making lofty promises but rarely delivering. However, one company took an unconventional approach to ensuring employees had “more time for family and friends". They decided to “lessen the responsibilities" of its employees.
Sounds great, right? Well, there was a catch. When they said less on the plate, they meant it quite literally.

Not only did they reduce employees’ responsibilities, but they also slashed their salaries.
A screengrab of the email communicating this was shared on Reddit in its “recruitinghell" community. The subject line reads: “Changes to your responsibilities."
“Yay! More time for family and friends! We’re adjusting your responsibilities, so you have less on your plate moving forward. Your title remains the same, but due to fewer tasks, your salary will be recalculated accordingly (you can check the new calculation on your dashboard)," reads the email from HR.
“You can access and sign the updated form on your dashboard. Please wait for an email from me before starting any work. Let me know if you have any questions," it continues.
The Internet, true to its nature, flocked to the comments section of the Reddit post to share their two cents on the not-so-impressive email an employee received from their boss.
“Yay! We are cutting your salary! (And we’re totally not gonna decrease your workload, we are just creating by saying that) If you haven’t started looking for a new job, do so now. You’re lucky this was not a layoff notice (yet)," expressed one Reddit user.
Another asked, “Do you have an employment contract? This happened to me and I refused to sign which led to retaliation & a settlement."
“Following, I assume this would be in lieu of a layoff or they are forcing you to resign?" chimed in a third.
A fourth commented, “Layoff sign. They don’t have money to pay you. Your time at this company is limited, either via your resignation or them laying you off."
Someone else thinks that the new policy is “borderline psychotic".
