A woman disrupted an engagement ceremony in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, claiming to be the bride’s girlfriend. The woman alleged a four-year live-in relationship with the bride, stating she had declined three marriage proposals during that time. This resulted in a heated argument between the two women, prompting police intervention. The prolonged dispute, lasting late into the night, led to the groom’s family calling off the marriage. The police are investigating the matter.
The bride, who holds a Master of Arts degree, was engaged to a man from the Quarsi area of Aligarh. The engagement ceremony was held at the Ruby Hotel in the Gandhi Park police station area. As the couple were on stage, the bride’s alleged girlfriend approached them. She took the bride by the hand and attempted to lead her away, sparking a confrontation between them.

The woman claimed to have been in a romantic relationship with the bride, but the bride denied her claims. Despite the woman presenting evidence, the bride remained unconvinced and retreated with her relatives. The situation escalated, requiring police intervention.
The woman who disrupted the engagement ceremony, identified as Bina, and the bride-to-be were once students at the same coaching centre. Bina holds a Bachelor of Arts degree. Their friendship began at the coaching centre and grew during a wedding celebration in 2021.
“We have been in a live-in relationship for four years. When my sister got married in 2021, our conversation started. She used to call me to her house. I told her that this was not acceptable in society, but she did not listen. I tried to talk to her mother many times, but she threatened suicide. I then told her that we should inform our parents and live together. She said that if we did not live together, then we would run away," Bina shared.
“Time passed slowly. When my mother, father, and brother began searching for a husband for me, she wanted me to break off the engagement somehow. She told me to refuse the proposal, which I did. This happened with every proposal that came my way. Recently, my brother arranged a match for me, and three or four months ago, I became pregnant. When I shared the news and showed her photos, she insisted that I must find a way to stop the marriage, regardless of the circumstances," she said.
“Distraught, she took her mother’s saree and attempted to hang herself from the ceiling fan. Her last words were a plea for me to break off the marriage. Now, as her wedding draws near, I have pleaded with her to reconsider, but she refuses to listen. I reminded her that she ended my marriage and implored her to help me in return, but my pleas fell on deaf ears. That is why I am here today," she further added.
The groom stated that the marriage would no longer proceed. He explained that the wedding was cancelled because his fiancée had been in a same-sex relationship.
