The internet is no stranger to experiments when it comes to food. From old recipes being revived to viral food experiments giving way to new concoctions, internet foodies are spoilt for choice. But not all such experiments hit the sweet spot. The response to certain food innovations can be divisive especially if a classic dish is involved. This is exactly what has happened with a new poori recipe. While the traditional recipe is a staple in the Indian subcontinent, the new variant that has surfaced on the internet recently has failed to impress foodies. While the recipe went viral, it was for all the wrong reasons.

It all started when an Instagram user published a video demonstrating how to make meethi poori. The video shows the user placing rolled-up dough against the underside of a flat colander. The design of the colander resulted in several tiny bulges on one side of the flatbread. Next, she takes the dough out of the colander and is seen brushing a red paste – which appears to be a sweet syrup mixture – on the same side. Later, the flattened dough is placed in hot oil. Although the result was a fluffy poori, it featured red spots due to the paste. The video was posted, with the caption: “Meethi Poori".
