According to The Sun, 34-year-old Lee Rodgers in Durham County had a toothache for about two weeks. For the first two weeks, she tried to get rid of her pain with painkillers, but was unsuccessful. Lee again tried to get an appointment with the dentist but could not get one even after several weeks.

    Taken To Hospital

Finally, one day the pain increased, and she was taken from the county to the University Hospital of North Durham in an ambulance. There too, the doctors said that it would take time to see a dentist, but the patient’s pain could be reduced. The doctors decided to do a CT scan for Lee as her toothache had spread through her neck to her chest.

Why Was The CT Scan Necessary?

Lee’s CT scan was done to ensure that she did not have Ludwig’s angina. It is a fatal bacterial infection that can occur due to tooth infection. That is why she was given a contrast dye containing iodine. This makes the infected and healthy areas clearly visible in the CT scan.

But while she was still under CT scan, she went into anaphylactic shock. Her partner, Darren, explained how suddenly many people started entering the room. During the conversation, it was found out that Lee was having a reaction. Efforts were made to save her for 90 minutes. But finally, she had to be declared dead.

While the hospital’s emergency consultant, Dr Oliver Moore, admitted that this was the first time in his career that he had seen such a problem due to a CT scan, the post-mortem revealed that the woman had died due to an allergy to the dye. The court also described this case as very unusual and very unfortunate.
