D Gukesh won the World Chess Championship final on December 12.
The 18-year-old grandmaster defeated China’s Ding Liren in Singapore.
Gukesh’s victory came in the 14th round of the final.
He secured the requisite 7.5 points against Liren’s 6.5 to win the fixture.
The victory made him the youngest winner in World Chess Championship’s history.
Gary Kasparov held the previous record for a period of 39 years.
Kasparov had won the tournament at the age of 22 years and 210 days in 1985.
Magnus Karlsen was crowned the World Chess Champion at 22 years and 357 days in 2013.
In 4th place, we have Mikhail Tal who became champion at 23 years and 32 days in 1980.
Finally, we have Anatoly Karpov who was crowned champion at 23 years 10 months and 8 days in 1975.
