Roya Rasouli who was nominated for the Pride of Britain Award bravely shared her experiences with endometriosis. “When I was diagnosed with endometriosis, I was devastated," she said adding, “This chronic disease has caused me immense pain for the past 14 years, and I have been desperately searching for a doctor who can alleviate it. Despite consulting numerous specialists, I haven’t found significant relief."

Roya explained that endometriosis affects millions of women globally. This incurable disease causes tissue similar to the uterine lining to grow outside the uterus, affecting the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or other pelvic areas. This abnormal growth results in excruciating pain that can disrupt daily life.

Endometriosis can begin with a woman’s first period and persist until menopause. While incurable, its symptoms can be managed with medication or, in some cases, surgery. Women with endometriosis experience extreme pain and excessive bleeding during menstruation, along with various other physical challenges.

Witnessing the struggles of women battling this disease, Roya, a young fashion design student, decided to help. Using her skills from Manchester Metropolitan University, she launched ‘FemWear’, a fashion brand dedicated to creating stylish and comfortable clothing for women with endometriosis and similar conditions. The brand quickly gained popularity.

Amidst this growing recognition, Roya was nominated for ‘The King’s Trust Young Achiever Award’ at the Pride of Britain Awards. This nomination celebrated her efforts to support those with gynaecological diseases and related conditions.

“It’s unreal and incredibly emotional to receive this recognition for my work," Roya shared during the awards ceremony. “Creating FemWear wasn’t easy, but I’m proud to have stayed true to my vision. This is dedicated to all women enduring conditions like endometriosis. They fight every day, and I’m fortunate to be in a position to help them," she shared.
