Myanmar Earthquake: Myanmar was hit by two powerful earthquakes on Friday, resulting in over 1,000 deaths and more than 2,000 injuries. Several videos, now going viral, showed buildings collapsing like houses of cards, while people ran for their lives. Among those who witnessed this horrifying experience was a Korean family trapped in a high-rise building in Bangkok.

In a post on X, the Korean man shared a clip showing the building shaking as the pool overflow due to the strong tremors. The sound of a child screaming can also be heard in the video.

In a follow-up post, the man informed that he and his children were safe and had managed to get out of the building.

“We’ve come down from the 31st floor. The little one is fine too. They’re so brave, didn’t fuss at all even when we had to take the stairs," the user said in the post on X.

A devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar at midday, with the epicentre near Mandalay, the country’s second-largest city. The quake was followed by several aftershocks, one of which measured a significant 6.4 magnitude.

Myanmar is located along an active earthquake belt, but most tremors typically occur in remote areas, far from urban centres. The U.S. Geological Survey, an American government science agency, has estimated that the death toll from this disaster could exceed 1,000.

In Mandalay, the earthquake caused the collapse of numerous buildings, including one of the city’s largest monasteries. Images from Naypyidaw, Myanmar’s capital, showed rescue workers pulling victims from the rubble of various buildings that were used as housing for civil servants.

China and Russia have dispatched rescue teams, while US President Trump has stated that the United States would provide support to Myanmar.
