Ambati Rayudu and Navjot Singh Sidhu engaged in a war of words on live television when the IPL 2025 match between the Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings was underway in Mullanpur. Rayudu, who won three titles with CSK, poked Sidhu for changing his teams frequently and called him a ‘Girgit’ (chameleon).

It was looking like simple banter until Sidhu hit back with a befitting reply. A video featuring their verbal spat has now gone viral across social media. “Aap team badal rahe ho (You are changing your team)," Rayudu smilingly said.

Sidhu protested immediately and silenced his fellow commentator with a bold remark. Taking the cue from Rayudu’s comment, the 61-yeat-old said, “Is sansar me girgit ki tarah koi hai to tumhare aradhyadev hai ((If there’s someone like a chameleon in this world, it is your idol)."

Though Sidhu didn’t take any name, some fans felt he was referring to MS Dhoni as Rayudu’s “aradhyadev". Even, after the cricket-turned-pundit made the statement, the broadcaster’s camera panned towards the CSK dressing room where Dhoni was seen doing shadow practice with his bat.

Rayudu has often triggered controversies with his unfiltered remarks. Earlier in this IPL season, clashed with fellow commentator Sanjay Bangar over the role of Rohit Sharma in the current Mumbai Indians squad.

Bangar opined that Rohit should provide strategic support to captain Hardik Pandya when they are fielding. Rayudu, however, felt otherwise as he said, “I don’t think Hardik needs input. A captain needs to be left alone. Dhoni was not at his ears all the time. Same for Rohit. Then why should Hardik have 10 people at his ears?"

In response, Bangar firmly said, “For you, it was different because you never led an IPL team. But here is a guy who has led the team to multiple IPL titles."

Besides Rohit Sharma, Rayudu is the only player to win the IPL six times. He became the champion with Mumbai Indians in 2013, 2015, and 2017 before replicating the feat with Chennai in 2018, 2021 and 2023.
