A meeting among the higher-ups in the Board of Control for Cricket in India that was scheduled to take place today at Guwahati has reportedly been postponed. Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of the senior men’s selection committee, and Devajit Saikia, the BCCI secretary, were expected to be involved in the discussions.

According to a report by the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), the meeting being postponed was intimated to those involved the previous night and it is suggested that the two major topics that would be discussed was on the annual retainers in the senior men’s team alongside the India A squad and the senior team with the upcoming England tour in mind.

An unnamed source in the BCCI was quoted by IANS saying, “Agarkar was scheduled to land in Guwahati on Saturday and have a meeting with Saikia, as per the original schedule. But the information of the meeting’s postponement came out on Friday night itself".

“As of now, there’s no real clarity on when that meeting could happen now – either after the second IPL game in Guwahati or in the first week of April. But whatever conversation happens in that meeting in future, all relevant details are believed to be coming out in the public domain soon after," they added.

The report also mentions that the Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir, could also be a part of the meeting. The former Indian cricketer was on an overseas family vacation recently, and he would want to get back in focus for the new season coming up.

India A is set to play two four-day matches that begin on May 30, followed by the senior team taking part in the five-match Test Series that begins at Headingly on June 20, later this year. This marks India’s first Test series in the new World Test Championship cycle for 2025-27 after the side missed out on a spot in the previous edition’s final with a 1-3 series defeat in their tour of Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The last time India were able to secure a Test series win in England was back in 2007.

Major Changes On The Cards In BCCI’s Central Contracts?

It remains to be seen if some of the ageing senior stars would keep their spot in the top grade in BCCI’s central contract system. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have retired from the T20I format but remain in the A+ category since then. It should be noted that MS Dhoni maintained his A+ contract after retiring from Test cricket in December 2014.

In addition, the likes of Shreyas Iyer who was omitted last year, could find himself back in the list considering his stellar performances in the Champions Trophy, being India’s leading run-scorer in their title-winning run.
