MI, despite not finding their groove with the bat, put in a valiant effort with Suryakumar Yadav hitting 48 in 28 balls laced with one boundary and four maximums to keep them in the hunt in their chase of 197.
Prasidh Krishna showcased one of his best performances in the tournament as he finished with figures of 2/12 in his four overs where he removed both Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav respectively.
Mohammed Siraj set the tone in the powerplay by removing both Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton with precision.
The first innings saw Sai Sudarshan continue his brilliant run with the bat as he scored a crucial fifty which helped the hosts get to an above-par score in what looked to be difficult conditions for the batters. Alongside Shubman Gill, the GT opening duo gave the side an aggressive start in the powerplay which helped set the tone for the rest of the innings.
Unfortunately, the young batting star was forced off the field whilst putting in a dive to save the boundary in the second innings. He was seen holding his left-hamstring and the extent of his injury is yet to be revealed by the team-management.
Hardik Pandya who made his return to the side, delivered the first breakthrough by dismissing Shubman Gill. Despite the skipper’s dismissal, Jos Buttler continued the charge whilst Sudarshan looked to struggle to find the boundaries after the powerplay. With Buttler trying to attack, Mujeeb ur Rahman got rid of the Englishman on 39 from 24 balls which had five boundaries and a maximum.
Brief Scores:
Gujarat Titans: 196-8 in 20 overs (Sai Sudharsan 63; Hardik Pandya 2/29).
Mumbai Indians: 160 for 6 in 20 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 48; Mohammed Siraj 2/34, Prasidh Krishna 2/18).
