Rishabh Pant faced criticism after scoring 2 runs in IPL 2025 against Mumbai Indians, his third single-digit score this season. LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka still backs him.
Rishabh Pant once again found himself at the center of fans’ ire after yet another single-digit score in IPL 2025 on Friday (April 4). The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain got out for 2 (6) in the first innings against Mumbai Indians at the Ekana Stadium, mistiming a half-hearted shot to his opposite number, Hardik Pandya’s delivery.
It was his third score of under 10 in IPL 2025. In the previous three matches, his numbers read 0, 15 and 2 — contrasting to what LSG would have expected after paying an IPL-record fee of Rs. 27 crore for him in the 2025 mega auction. As per the latest trend, alongside Pant, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka‘s name also trended on social media.

The businessman is famous for being hands-on with his team and has publically backed Pant to come good for the price, both as a captain and a batter. With Pant’s predecessor, KL Rahul, he was even seen having heated arguments near the pavilion. Similar pictures have come out this season, too.

Despite Pant’s failure, LSG managed to score a substantial 203/8, thanks to fifties from Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram and a cameo from David Miller.
