As per Australia women’s skipper Alyssa Healy, wife of Mitchell Starc, who joined the Capitals camp earlier this week, Rahul might not be available for the first two matches.
“No Harry Brook, (so) it will be interesting to see who the replacement player will be. They have KL Rahul, who will probably not play the first couple of games I think… they are awaiting the birth of (their) child, but that dynamic, is cool," Healy said while speaking on LisTNR Sport.
“They have that power in the young guys but they also have a KL Rahul who can stitch the innings in T20s. He’s going to be exciting to watch," Healy said.
Rahul was purchased by the Capitals for a whopping Rs 12 crore in the IPL 2025 auction after he was released by the Lucknow Super Giants.
Rishabh Pant, who led the Capitals and kickstarted his career with the Delhi team as well, joined Lucknow for a record Rs 27 crore fee.
The two teams will clash for their opening game of IPL 2025 on March 24, but it seems Rahul may not be available for the match in Vishakhapatnam.
There had been a lot of speculation over Delhi’s leadership ever since Rahul’s acquisition, with the batter among the leading contenders to succeed the outgoing Pant.
But the Delhi management eventually settled on Axar Patel, who has led Gujarat in domestic cricket, for the captaincy job. They appointed Faf du Plessis as his deputy, with the Protean coming off after leading the Royal Challengers Bengaluru for three seasons.
Rahul might thus be available for the big clash against the Chennai Super Kings on Saturday, April 5 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
