Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has said that the Rajasthan Royals are looking like a shadow of their last season and letting go of four to five core players has left gaping holes in the lineup, after the team lost their second successive match in IPL 2025, with a big clash against Chennai Super Kings coming up.

Rajasthan, who won the title in the inaugural edition of the tournament, have suffered successive tame defeats to the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Kolkata Knight Riders and are placed at the bottom of the table, with a net run rate of -1.88.

Rajasthan started IPL 2025 by conceding the second-highest total in IPL history against Hyderabad at the latter’s home.

“RR look a shadow of last season. Letting go of Buttler, Boult, Yuzi and Ash—core gun players—left big boots to fill," Jaffer tweeted on Wednesday night.

Rajasthan are next scheduled to face the Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati on Sunday, March 30.

Quinton de Kock struck a magnificent 97 not out on a tacky Barsapara pitch, anchoring Kolkata’s chase to perfection as they secured a dominant eight-wicket victory over Rajasthan.

Opting to bowl, Kolkata’s disciplined bowling attack, led by their spin duo Varun Chakravarthy (2/17) and Moeen Ali (2/23), restricted Rajasthan to a below-par 151/9.

In response, De Kock remained 97 not out from 61 deliveries, his innings laced with eight boundaries and six sixes, as Kolkata chased down the target in the 18th over.

Despite the challenging nature of the pitch, de Kock showed controlled aggression, timing the ball well while ensuring Kolkata’s chase remained on track.

The 152-run chase was never in trouble, with the required run rate being around run-a-ball.

Kolkata lost Moeen Ali (5) and captain Ajinkya Rahane (18) early, but De Kock held one end firm, finding an able partner in young Angkrish Raghuvanshi 22 (17 balls).
