Senior Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav said the team ‘had to win’ because his wife, Devisha Shetty, flew in to Hyderabad to watch the team play against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). MI beat SRH by seven wickets to seal their fourth-consecutive win of the season.

Pacers Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar reduced the hosts to 35/5 in the first innings before Heinrich Klaasen’s 71 (44) and Abhinav Manohar’s 43 (37) helped them reach 143/8. In reply, opener Rohit Sharma’s clinical 70 (46) and Suryakumar’s unbeaten 40 (19) made light work of the chase.

Shetty was seen in the stands a couple of times.

“She has flown down from Mumbai, so what more do I need?" Suryakumar said after the match. “She was here, so we had to win. I think it was really important to come out positive as we were playing good cricket and had to continue the momentum, winning four games on the trot is a great feeling."

Surya also spoke about Rohit, explaining how the former skipper made his ‘job easier’.

“He made my job really easier, I just had to bat with good tempo, and him scoring runs is a really great sign for the team…" Suryakumar said, before adding about his favorite sweep shot: “You keep practising these sweeps in the nets, I want to continue that in the game, and I’m really happy with it. It’s less risk, high reward."

This was his second unbeaten knock in a win after his brilliant 68 against Chennai Super Kings.

Left-arm pacer Boult shone with his four wickets in the first innings. He took two in the powerplay and two at the death.

“Just nice to contribute to a good win," he said after the match, as quoted by Cricbuzz. “Good game for us. To restrict them to a decent score in their home conditions was wonderful. Just wanted to hit the wicket and make the batsmen play good shots, tried to keep it simple and put pressure on the batsmen. Good to see a couple of catches held today. I’d love to bowl four in a row and let it swing but that doesn’t always happen. Need to always be ready for whenever I’m called upon. Slightly different role for me this year. It’s a low percentage ball for me but as some older bowlers would say, nothing could beat a good yorker. I still love the feeling of competing and getting wickets. It’s a huge tournament, there are hundreds of thousands of bowlers who’d love to do what we’re doing so it’s about not taking it for granted," the Kiwi added.
