Shreyas Iyer Thanks Abhishek Nayar For Supporting In Tough Times, Says 'Aise Log Ko Hamesha Saath Rakhunga'
Nayar worked closely with Shreyas Iyer during his association with Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL and then after joining the Indian team as assistant coach in July 2024.

Shreyas Iyer was on fire for India in the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The 30-year-old right-handed batter from Mumbai played all five matches for Men in Blue and, with the help of two half-centuries, scored 243 runs. He finished the tournament as the leading run scorer for Men in Blue and earned wide praise from all corners for his sensible knocks that pulled India out of danger time and again.
The last one year has been a tough one for Iyer, who, despite scoring more than 500 runs in the ODI World Cup 2023, lost his central contract and also his place in India’s Test team. He led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2024 title win but was not given enough credit for it and was also released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions.

During a recent interview with journalist Vimal Kumar, Iyer opened up about the lows of his life and mentioned the names of Pravin Amre and Abhishek Nayar, along with a few others, for supporting him always in tough times.
According to Iyer, “See, when I am in lows in my life, only a few people message me. And their names are Praveen Amre Sir and Abhishek Nayar. Like I said, Sagar. Sagar, with whom I trained. And there are a few more people who supported me very well at that time. And I will always keep such people with me. Because these people have always seen me since my young days. When something is going well, then stay normal. But when something goes bad, then they are very good with me. So, I appreciate such a kind of mentality. And if such people are around you, then you will definitely grow."
Iyer worked with Amre during his playing days in the IPL for Delhi Capitals and joined hands with Nayar during his time with Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022 and 2024.
Nayar, who hails from Mumbai, has worked closely with Iyer in the Indian team as well after he joined Gautam Gambhir’s coaching staff in July last year as assistant coach.
