Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) debutant Abhinav Manohar flew high in the air to grab a stunning one-handed catch to earn his team the big wicket of Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in their campaign opener of IPL 2025 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday (March 23).

It happened in the second over of the second innings, with RR tasked to chase a mammoth 287 runs. Another SRH debutant, pacer Simarjeet Singh bowled it short and wide and Jaiswal took it on with a ferocious cut. It seemed like it’d go over Manohar at point but the 30-year-old timed his jump to perfection to pluck it. He went with both hands but it stuck in his right one, kicking off the celebrations from the SRH camp.

Watch the wicket here:

The wicket-taking ball from Simarjeet was just over 142 kph, which compounded with his extra bounce and nip seemingly made it difficult for Jaiswal to get on top of the bounce completely.

And the Delhi-born pacer wasn’t done yet. RR’s stand-in captain Riyan Parag came out to bat and hit a boundary on his first ball but on the next, Simarjeet banged it short at 145.5 kph. Parag tried to take on the pull but was beaten by the extra pace and bounce, too, with another top-edge going high and then to Pat Cummins for an easy at mid-on.

His next over went for 15 runs. Mohammed Shami returned for the fifth over and got rid of Nitish Rana. Then, Dhruv Jurel’s 20-run assault against Cummins in the last over of the powerplay took RR to 73/6.

Earlier, in the first innings, SRH scored 286/6. Openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head scored 45 runs in the first three overs. Both got out by the 10th over but Ishan Kishan’s first IPL century — 106 (47) — and cameos from Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen took them to the second-highest score in the tournament’s history.
