Mumbai Woman Sells Her Three-Month-Old Baby To Fund Husband’s Bail, 9 Held For Trafficking

In a shocking incident, the Mumbai Police have arrested a 32-year-old woman for allegedly selling her three-month-old baby in Karnataka to secure bail compensation for her jailed husband. Besides the woman, the police have arrested eight other people for their involvement in the crime.

According to officials, the woman’s husband, who had been arrested in a theft case by the railway police, had discussed the need for bail money with her during a visit to Byculla jail while she was pregnant. Following this, she allegedly decided to sell her baby to raise funds.

The trail of human trafficking came into limelight after the woman’s mother-in-law, Pramila Pawar (51), registered a complaint with the Matunga Police claiming that her daughter-in-law, Manisha Yadav (32) had sold her baby girl in Bengaluru.

“The mother admitted to receiving Rs 1 lakh from the sale of the infant. However, her mother-in-law discovered the transaction and immediately reported it to the police," an officer said as reported by Indian Express.

“We registered a case under Sections 143 (trafficking of person) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, and under various sections of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015," an official said as reported by Hindustan Times.

They arrested Manisha along with Sulochana Kamble, 45, who worked as house-help and helped Manisha sell her daughter.

    The arrested individuals have been identified as Manisha Sunny Yadav, Sulochana Suresh Sable, Mira Rajaram Yadav, Yogesh Suresh Bhoir, Roshni Sontu Ghosh, Sandhya Arjun Rajput, Madina alias Munni Imam Chavan, Tainaz Shahin Chauhan, and Moinuddin Tamboli.
