'He Is Safe': Bihar Man Loses Wife & Daughter In Delhi Stampede, Struggles To Locate Son
A stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night killed 18 people, including three children, and injured around 30 others. Families are still searching for missing relatives.

A pall of gloom descended upon the families of victims of New Delhi Railway Station stampede that took place on Saturday night. The horrific stampede has so far claimed 18 lives, including three children, and left around 30 others injured.
Further, some people have claimed that their relatives, who got trapped as chaos unfolded, are still missing.

A native from Bihar, Raj Kumar Manjhi, who was supposed to board a train with his wife and two minor children, said that the tragedy claimed the lives of his wife Shanti Devi and daughter Pooja Kumari but his son is alive.
He also claimed that son, Avinash, was trapped by the stampede but somebody pulled him out and currently his whereabouts are unknown. Manjhi said they were on his native place in Newada in Bihar when the unfortunate incident took place. He was about to board a train at platform number 7.
Similarly, another woman who claimed her relative of the woman who got trapped due to the stampede is missing. The relative identified as Sheela, claimed that the woman was heading to the Mahakumbh but she did not have a ticket. Sheela reached the LNJP Hospital where the victims were brought, to enquire about her missing relative.
She alleged that there was a sudden announcement made about a train coming on platform 14 after soon the crowd panicked, rushed and collided with each other.
“There was suddenly an announcement that the train will be coming on platform 14. People started running, and there was a stampede… I got information that the bodies have been kept here so I have come here to collect the body of my relative… We were going to Chhapra, Bihar… I have no idea about my train ticket, and neither do I know which train I was supposed to board," she said.
At a time when Indian Railways is experiencing a heavy rush of passengers heading to Prayagraj to attend the Maha Kumbh, hundreds of passengers suddenly gathered on platforms 13 and 14 in a span of 15-20 minutes, triggering a stampede which left several injured.
The Delhi Police on Sunday issued a statement saying “The announcement of the Prayagraj Special arriving at Platform 16 led to confusion because the Prayagraj Express was already at Platform 14. People who couldn’t reach to their train at Platform 14 thought their train was arriving at Platform 16 leading to the stampede."
A probe is underway into the stampede.
