In the heart of a historic village believed to date back to the Mahabharata era, a temple dedicated to Baba Narayan Das continues to draw thousands of devotees from across the country. Located in Jadauda Panda, a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district, this sacred site holds deep spiritual significance for the surrounding twelve villages, whose residents revere Baba Narayan Das as their divine protector.

For centuries, a unique belief has persisted in these villages: no resident has ever succumbed to a snakebite. The villagers attribute this extraordinary immunity to the blessings of Baba Narayan Das, a revered saint who lived approximately 700 years ago.

According to local lore, Baba Narayan Das was born in Jadauda Panda to parents Ugrasen and Mata Bhagwati. A devout follower of Lord Shiva, he spent his life travelling to different places to perform penance before ultimately returning to his village, where he renounced the world and took samadhi, merging with the earth in deep meditation.

The site where he took samadhi remains intact, marked by his shrine, which has since become a major pilgrimage centre. Devotees from all over the country visit the temple, seeking Baba Narayan Das’ blessings, as it is widely believed that their wishes are granted here. Pandit Pankaj Sharma, a local resident, affirmed this belief, stating, “In our villages, we have never heard of anyone dying from a snakebite. The divine grace of Baba Narayan Das protects us, and no medical intervention is ever needed."

The legend of Baba Narayan Das extends beyond his miraculous blessings. Historical accounts suggest that he donated 80 bighas of land to a Lord Shiva temple, reinforcing his devotion to the deity. It is also believed that he, along with his faithful servant, horse, and dog, attained samadhi at the temple site, where his shrine now stands.

The temple itself is also known as ‘Jud Mandir‘, a name derived from a former dense bamboo forest that once stood here. This sacred space is closely associated with the Shri Panchayati Udasin Akhara, an ancient sect of ascetics dedicated to Lord Shiva worship.

Each year, in the month of Ashadh, on a Sunday during the Shukla Paksha, a grand bhandara (community feast) is organised at the temple, drawing thousands of devotees who gather to pay their respects and participate in religious offerings.
