This process results in what experts call photoaging—premature aging of the skin due to prolonged sun exposure. The signs are easy to spot: fine lines, dark spots, leathery texture, enlarged pores, and uneven tone. Over time, unprotected exposure also increases the risk of skin cancer, especially in climates with high UV index levels.

In India, where sunny days dominate the calendar, cumulative sun exposure begins early in life. This makes it even more important to adopt sun-conscious habits from a young age.

Sunscreen: Your first line of defence

Ask any dermatologist, and they will tell you the single most important skincare product isn’t a fancy anti-aging serum—it’s sunscreen. Broad-spectrum sunscreens protect against both UVA and UVB rays and are key to preserving skin integrity.
