Aamir Khan Is A 'Protective' Father, Says Daughter Ira: 'I Lived With My Mom But He...'

Aamir Khan’s daughter, Ira Khan, recently opened up about their father-daughter bond in a chat with People of India. She mentioned that while Aamir would travel a lot for his shoots, he was very protective about her and would even check if anyone was troubling her in school.
Reflecting on Aamir’s protectiveness, Ira said, “He wouldn’t let me swim. He wouldn’t let me go in what was more than water till my waist in the ocean. I would be like I have been swimming since age three, just because you cannot swim… But he was a protective father."

“He would travel and be on shoot, and I lived with my mom. But he would always check if anyone in school was troubling me or if everything was fine. We played a lot of board games and we were very competitive. All three of us- Junaid, dad and me. During Covid, we spent a lot of time together," she said.
Ira Khan also opened up about the complexities of parent-child relationships in a recent candid conversation with Ahsaas Channa. She described them as “very complicated" and reflected on her own journey with her father, Aamir Khan. The duo sought therapy together to strengthen their bond, an experience that helped Ira understand the importance of viewing parents as individuals beyond their traditional roles.
Ira shared her personal experiences during her battle with depression and the lessons she learned about nurturing relationships, including with her parents. She emphasized how as children grow into adults, the dynamics with parents should evolve. However, she noted that this transition often goes unaddressed, leading to challenges like over-coddling.
As for her personal life, Ira recently celebrated her first wedding anniversary with Nupur Shikhare. Ira, an advocate for mental health awareness, tied the knot with fitness trainer Nupur Shikhare on January 3, 2024, at Mumbai’s Taj Lands End. Their wedding celebrations included a legal ceremony, followed by joyous events in Udaipur, such as Mehendi, Sangeet, and a white wedding. The couple also hosted a star-studded reception in Mumbai, attended by Bollywood icons like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Rekha, Juhi Chawla, Jaya Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, and Ranbir Kapoor, among others.
