L2 Empuraan vs Sikandar: Mohanlal Starrer Surpasses Salman Khan Film With Rs 69 Crore Lead
Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2 Empuraan opened with a monstrous collection of Rs 67 crore worldwide on its release day.

Last week saw the clash between the two most awaited films of the year – Salman Khan’s Sikandar and Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan. With both the films storming the box-office, Empuraan on March 27 and Salman’s film on March 30, audiences flocked to nearby theatres, which successfully translated into the collections of the film. If reports are to be believed, both the films performed well in terms of monetary benefits. Sikandar, as per the industry tracker Sacnilk, earned Rs 26 crores on its opening day, leaving behind Mohanlal’s release, which only made Rs 21 crore. Gradually, the figures began highlighting L2: Empuraan taking the lead. Here’s taking a look at day-wise collections, comparing earnings of both the films.

On the other hand, Sikandar managed to earn only Rs 50.25 crore on a global scale. The subsequent days saw a little dip in the collections, making Rs 34.50 crore on Day 2 and Rs 35 crore on Day 3. On the fourth day of its release, the film earned Rs 39 crore, wrapping the first weekend with Rs 175.50 crore gross globally.

As for Salman’s action drama, it clocked Rs 44.50 crore, recording a better day than Mohanlal’s film. However, the film failed to maintain its stronghold, witnessing a downward trajectory soon after the Eid Holidays. The AR Murugadoss directorial collected Rs 28.50 crore on Day 3 and Rs 13 crore, the next day. On its Day 5, Empuraan grossed over Rs 26.25 crore, followed by Rs 17.55 crore on Day 6, earning a total of Rs 219 crore at the worldwide box office.
Moving on, we take a look at the collections of Sikandar on Day 5 and Day 6. Witnessing massive drops, the film could earn only Rs 8 crore on its fifth day and Rs 6.50 crore on the sixth day. The total collections till the 6th day of its release stood at Rs 150.75 crore gross globally.
Given a look at the total collections of both the films, it is evident that the Mohanlal starrer is taking the lead of Rs 69 crore, surpassing Sikandar’s theatrical run. Furthermore, Empuraan’s box-office performance also hints at a business of more than Rs 250 crore gross globally.
