Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui shared that he enjoys blending in with the crowd, though this often leads to funny situations, like being stopped from entering the set of his own films. He recalled that in the early years of his career, when he approached people for auditions, they would tell him he didn’t look like an actor. He said that he would get frustrated.

During a session at the second edition of the Cinevesture International Film Festival, he said, “I would get angry. You go to someone’s office and introduce yourself as an actor and they would ask ‘Who are you?’. I would say I am an actor. They would be like, ‘You don’t look like one’."

Remembering interviews, he said, “During interviews, they would say, ‘You are unconventional looking’. Bhai, how am I unconventional when crores of people look like me in India. I’m conventional, it’s Hrithik Roshal who looks unconventional."

Nawazuddin Siddiqui shared a story from the set of Talaash where a security guard stopped him from entering the set. He was allowed in only after convincing the guard that he was an actor in the film. He also said this happens to him even today. Recalling shooting for Raat Akeli Hai Part 2 he said, “It still happens to me… I’m currently shooting for ‘Raat Akeli Hai part 2’ with Honey Trehan sir. I would be standing behind him and he would be searching for me. I would then say, ‘Sir, I am right behind you’. It is good. I know how to merge in the crowd and I love that. My personality is like that and I take advantage of it."

Earlier, during a chat with News18 Showsha, Nawazuddin Siddiqui had opened up about facing colourism and unfair treatment in society. He had shared that people have always told him he’s unattractive, and sadly, he’s started to believe it. Speaking of the unfair treatment, he had said, “Pata nahi shakalo se humari nafrat kyun hai kuch logon ko. Kyunki shakal hee aisi hai – itne badsurat hai humlog. Humein bhi lagta hai jab apne aap ko aaine mein dekhte hai. Hum bhi bolte hai apne aap ko ‘kyun aa gaye film industry mein itne gande shakal leke?’ (I don’t know why some people hate the way we look. Maybe it’s because we’re just that ugly. Even I feel it when I look at myself in the mirror. I question why I came into the film industry with such a bad appearance).
