‘So Embarrassing’: Internet Calls Out NJZ’s Danielle For Lip-Syncing At ComplexCon Hong Kong
The controversy began when NJZ’s Danielle took centre stage to perform a rendition of TLC’s song No Scrubs during the show.

Amid their ongoing legal drama with ADOR, NJZ (formerly NewJeans) has been facing a fresh wave of criticism, this time due to their recent performance. On March 23, the quintet, comprising Danielle, Hanni, Hyein, Haerin and Minji, marked their first performance under their new name at ComplexCon Hong Kong. What was meant to be an exciting reintroduction of the K-pop girl group to the stage turned into a hotbed of debate, with accusations of lip-syncing overshadowing the moment.
The controversy began when NJZ’s Danielle took centre stage to perform a rendition of TLC’s song No Scrubs during the show. As several clips of her performance surfaced on social media, people took note of how the idol lip-synced her way through the song. What followed was a wave of criticism, with many expressing their disappointment. Moreover, a section of online users pointed out that not only did Danielle fail to sing live, but she also made little effort to conceal that she was lip-syncing.

Taking to X, one user said, “Isn’t she ashamed of lipsyncing at a global festival?" Another quipped, “Lipsyncing to such a legendary song is so embarrassing."
Someone else wrote, “This is probably your last performance, and you can’t even sing live (no hate but)"
“No way this girl gets a chance to cover No Scrubs at a global festival and lip-syncs it," wrote a different user.
This performance comes just days after the Seoul Central District Court ruled in favour of ADOR, granting the injunction over NJZ’s activities. On March 21, the court gave out its ruling, giving the HYBE subsidiary liberty to prevent the quintet from carrying out independent activities. This judgement was given in the lawsuit that ADOR filed in December last year after the quintet decided to terminate their exclusive contract with the agency unilaterally in November.
The ruling did not just give the agency the liberty to halt any independent activities of the group but also expanded to prohibit the five members from engaging in any form of entertainment activities, such as writing, composing, and singing independently.
Despite the court’s judgement, the quintet performed under their new name, NJZ, at ComplexCon and even debuted a new single, Pit Stop. Additionally, the girl group also announced that they were temporarily halting their activities for the time being.
