Soha Ali Khan Is All Praises As Sharmila Tagore Makes Comeback In Bengali Cinema With Puratawn

Sharmila Tagore, the veteran actor, made her comeback to Bengali cinema after 16 years with Puratawn, which co-stars Rituparna Sengupta. While the film is set to release this weekend, the buzz to see the legendary actress back on screen is quite high. Among others, her daughter, actress Soha Ali Khan, wrote a heartfelt tribute to celebrate her return and shared some stills of the Sharmila Tagore from the film.

The pictures showed Sharmila Tagore decked up as her Puratawn character. Along with the intriguing still Soha wrote, “Celebrating Amma in #Puratwan – her wonderful return to Bengali cinema after almost two decades #bts. As someone once told me – for us, Sharmila Thakur is not a person, she’s an emotion!" Fans soon reacted to Soha’s post. One of them stated “She’s still so pretty and elegant," while another said, “She is super gorgeous still. No one can match the elegance, sophistication, and grace in her."

The story delves critically into topics of memory loss caused by age-related ailments, as well as the lasting legacy of the past. In addition to Sharmila Tagore and Rituparna Sengupta, the film features Indraneil Sengupta in a crucial part. Puratwan earned the Best Feature Film award at the Houston Indian Film Festival, and it had previously won Best Film and Sharmila Tagore won the Best Actress at the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival.

In a recent interview with PTI, Sharmila confirmed that Puratwan will be her last Bengali film due to health difficulties. She said, “I love doing Bengali films. I love everything about Kolkata, but I am not as fit (for acting in shoots) as required due to my health conditions."

While Puratawn represents Sharmila Tagore’s return to the Bengali cinema industry, she made her acting comeback in 2023 with Gulmohar, which co-starred Manoj Bajpayee and Amol Palekar. The JioHotstar series received numerous honors for casting, performance and narrative. On the other hand, Soha will soon be in Chhorii 2. Vishal Furia directed the film, which also stars Nushrratt Bharuccha and Gashmeer Mahajani in leading parts.
